Dear Friends,
I would like to wish everyone a healthy and Happy New Year, 2010!! The years go by fast, the original S.TA.R.T. was established in 1991, it is hard to believe we are going into our 19th year. We have been fortunate though out these years to have so many friends and supporters, many animals have survived because of you. Some of you passed along our cries for help, others attended our fundraisers, many donate to animals in need, and others provide a safe, warm home for our rescued animals. Thank you.
This past year has been a momentous one for S.T.A.R.T. Among our many accomplishments, we saved numerous lives through our Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program, helped countless needy animals that came into our care, placed hundreds of pets in what we hope and pray will be their forever homes, and “squeezed in” just one more litter when we are so maxed out that we had to beg our foster homes to take in just one more kitten!
Our biggest success this year was something that I have dreamed about for many years. S.T.A.R.T., along with the dedication and compassion of our volunteers and of the doctors and staff at Rutherford Animal Hospital and Little Falls Animal Hospital, we were able to have a Spay Day for feral cats. Our S.T.A.R.T. trappers together with the public trapped over 100 cats! Each one was examined, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and either returned to their colony or placed in foster care. It was truly amazing to see the stream of traps across the hospital floor waiting for a chance at a better life! All of us want to thank all of those compassionate people who donated their time to make this day happen. We are hoping it will happen again soon!
S.T.A.R.T. has been fortunate enough to have several new volunteers join our Team. They have brought with them many talents. A few provided several innovative fundraising ideas, some became new foster homes, and still others just brought their energy to revitalize us! And, of course, I want to thank our dedicated and overworked volunteers that have been with me many years. S.T.A.R.T. would not still exist without them! All are deeply appreciated!!
At times we wish we could just “take a break” but there are so many animals out there that are counting on us. The little ones without their moms to care for them, the seniors that no longer have a family to look out for them and those that find themselves homeless again because their owners can’t afford to take care of them any longer due to financial hardships.
Another year is upon us, we hope that we can continue, with your help, to reduce the overpopulation in our communities while diminishing the homeless and hungry animals. Again we thank you, our friends and supporters, for your continued and lasting support, our animals count on each one of you.
Sincerely,
Annette Lamberti
