Animal rescue group has desperate need for temporary foster homes

LITTLE FALLS – Save the Animals Rescue Team (S.T.A.R.T.), an all-volunteer non-profit animal rescue group working throughout Northern New Jersey is desperatelyseeking foster homes.

Since S.T.A.R.T. does not have a shelter facility, its success depends on a network of foster families who open their homes to cats and dogs on a temporary basis until they are adopted.
S.T.A.R.T. can only help as many animals as it has available fosters to care for them.  Come Spring of 2009, one of S.T.A.R.T.’s main foster moms is moving across country.  Although S.T.A.R.T. wishes her all the best, this will put a
huge strain on its foster network.
What is a foster home?  Foster homes offer a loving and safe place for cats and/or dogs until they are adopted.  All animals are examined by a veterinarian and vaccinated before entering a foster home.  S.T.A.R.T. covers all medical expenses and provides all supplies needed such as crates, bowls, food, litter, etc.  All the foster families need to do is provide a safe, loving home for a cat or dog to spend time in while they are waiting to be permanently adopted.
How long is the commitment?  Depending on the needs of the animal, the commitment could vary from several days to several weeks or even months.  S.T.A.R.T. makes every effort to have the foster adopted as quickly as possible by holding pet adoption days every weekend at local pet stores and posting the adoptable pets on its Web site.
Although fostering takes a great deal of time and commitment, it is a rewarding experience.  If you have children, the lessons they learn from fostering will enrich their lives.  By fostering you receive the joy of loving an animal, companionship and loyalty.
