Sunday April 19th has been confirmed
SPAY DAY 2009 for FERAL CATS.
S.T.A.R.T. has joined together with Rutherford Animal Hospital on Sunday April 19th together we hope to alter 100+ feral cats from local communities. Doctors and staff at Rutherford Animal Hospital have generously offered to donate their time and facilities to help with our mutual concerns and efforts of reducing the overpopulation of Feral Cats in our community.
Low cost appointments will be offered at $25 per cat, FOR FERAL CATS ONLY. Cats will be altered, ear tipped, front lined and receive shots, both distemper and rabies. Anyone interested in low cost appointments for April 19th will be responsible for trapping and recovering the animals after surgery. Emails only to info@startpets.net
This is a great opportunity for everyone, S.T.A.R.T., Rutherford Animal Hospital and local communities to help reduce the Feral Population!! Please be reminded if you feed them, you need to fix them!! Trap, Neuter and Return is the only proven way to reduce the population and help to end the starvation and suffering of feral cats

We are excited to announce that we raised over $3200 which will provide funding for animals that were spayed or neutered during the month of February, and in conjunction with Humane Society of the United States, SpayDay 2009. S.T.A.R.T is also planning a SpayDay on April 19th for Feral Cats only, with veteriarian services being donated by Rutherford Animal Hospital. Funding will help provide low cost spay/neutering to the public for feral cats and will help our mutual efforts to reduce the overpopulation in Passaic & Bergen Counties.
S.T.A.R.T. had 85 supporters post pictures of their pets to help raise money, and countless people contributing $1 per vote to help our cause. Thank you to all that participated.

WHY SPAY OR NEUTER OUR PETS?
By making sure that your pet can't have puppies or kittens, you'll have peace of mind that his or her offspring won't be euthanized in an animal shelter.
Many people are surprised to learn that nationwide more than 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters. You might think that these are animals born in the streets or there is something "wrong" with them. But often they are the offspring of cherished family pets, even purebreds. Maybe someone's dog or cat got out just that one time or maybe the litter was intentional, but efforts to find enough good homes failed.
Still the result is homeless animals that have to be euthanized because there are more dogs and cats entering shelters than there are people willing to provide them with loving care. Even if you do find homes for your pet's puppies or kittens, that means there are fewer homes available to take in other pets from shelters. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100-percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats.
Spaying or neutering your pet means that your animal and its potential offspring won't contribute to the population of unwanted pets.
